🌱 1. Deforestation in Amazon Rainforest Drops to 20-Year Low
Record effort between Brazil, Colombia and Peru cuts Amazon deforestation by 78% compared to 2024. Drones, AI-monitoring, and Indigenous-led patrols have regenerated more than 500,000 hectares of deforested and degraded land. “The lungs of the Earth are being re-opened,” Brazilian Environment Minister Silva announced.

renewables produced 52% of the world’s electricity this month for the first time, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). The solar builds in India, the wind farms in the in the North Sea, and geothermal plants in Kenya led this change. The use of fossil fuels dropped to its lowest level since 1980.

Armenia and Azerbaijan reached a wide-ranging peace accord in Geneva, ending decades of estrangement and creating joint economic zones and cultural exchanges. Variety (UK, Japan & South Africa) announced the start of the Phase 1 studies for a broad spectrum cancer mRNA vaccine from the UK, Japan and South Africa 2015:38. Initial lab studies indicated 95 percent effectiveness in generating immune responses to tumors. Trials will run through 2026.
